Help Us Transform a Community Hub for Generations to Come

St Mary Magdalene Parish Hall | Prudhoe, Northumberland

A Living Piece of Local History
Built in 1903 through public subscription led by the local mining community, St Mary Magdalene Parish Hall has long been at the heart of Prudhoe. Transferred to the care of the Church later in the 20th century, the hall has served countless generations — as a wartime telephone exchange, a place of worship and celebration, and a thriving venue for community support and social connection.
From a new kitchen in 1970 to the installation of free Wi-Fi just before the COVID pandemic, the hall has continued to evolve with the times. During lockdown, plans for a kitchen refurbishment were fast-tracked to take advantage of the enforced closure. Today, the hall is busier than ever — but we’ve outgrown the space. That’s where you come in.

Our Vision: A Hall for Everyone

The hall is bursting with life — hosting over 20 community groups weekly, from baby groups and youth support to AA meetings, senior socials, and cultural classes. It’s also a venue for private celebrations, memorials, and town-wide events. Yet, we’re forced to turn away new groups every month because we simply don’t have the space.Through community consultation, the message is clear: we need more flexible, accessible space that serves everyone, including those who find large, busy venues overwhelming.
